Choose the Free Hand Selection tool at the settings below.
Zoom in until you can make a selection as below.
Choose the paint brush tool at the settings below. You may adjust any of these as you want to achieve whatever look you want. I used #9C5038 for the stems.
Paint your selection as below.
When you have finished the stems you should have an image like the one below.
