June
From the Hotel de Nesles, his residence on the left bank of the Seine in Paris, the Duc de Berry could look down in the month of June on this gentle agrarian scence just west of the Ile de la Cite. Beyond the peasants, cutting and gathering in hay, and across the river rises the royal palace occupied by King Charles VI before he moved to the Louvre. To the left, within the palace grounds, are the twin orange towers of the Coinciergerie which is still intact and where in 1793 Marie Antoinette was imprisoned. At the right are the high cross and the ornate Gothic spires of the Sainte-Chapelle.
