Golden-fronted Woodpecker
The Golden-fronted Woodpecker (Melanerpes aurifrons) is a medium-sized woodpecker with a pale gray head, throat, breast, and belly. They have a yellow nape patch and yellow spot above bill, the back is strongly barred with black and
white, the black wings are barred and spotted with white. The white bases to the primaries appear as a white crescent in flight. They also have a white rump and uppertail coverts with a dark tail. The adult
male has a small red cap on top of head. The Golden-fronted Woodpecker is common in a variety of habitats, including city parks, where suitable nesting trees are found.
